HEAT... That's the news.

Extreme Heat Advisory In Effect For Five Straight Days Beginning Monday

By Gazette Staff · June 29, 2026

The National Weather Service out of Paducah, KY has issued an extreme heat warning which will remain in effect for Doniphan, MO, and the surrounding area until July 3, with heat indices likely exceeding 100 degrees.

Exposure to 100°F heat can lead to serious health risks such as heat exhaustion, heat stroke, dehydration, and exacerbation of chronic health conditions. Vulnerable populations, including the elderly, young children, and those with pre-existing health issues, are particularly at risk.

To mitigate these risks, consider the following precautions:

* Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids.
* Avoid outdoor activities during peak heat hours.
* Use fans or air conditioning to stay cool.
* Wear light, loose-fitting clothing.
* Check on vulnerable individuals regularly.

Understanding these risks and taking preventive measures can help protect health during extreme heat events.

Pets can also suffer from heat-related illnesses when temperatures exceed 104°F, leading to serious conditions like heatstroke. It's crucial to keep them cool, provide plenty of water, and limit outdoor activities during extreme heat.
